Welcome to Railston Cottage
Railston Cottage was originally built (circa 1820) by John Railston Esq. A local seed and grain merchant. It was originally built to store his horse drawn coach when not in use. The floor above the coach house, was, it is believed, to be where the coachman/gardener and his family lived. Converted to full accommodation in 1939 to billet troops during World War II. The house had not been upgraded in any major way since then, until the present day; 2009.
Railston Cottage is situated in a quiet part of Seahouses on the Northumberland coast, within easy walking distance of the Harbour, Shops, Hotels Pubs & Restaurants.
Railston Cottage is well based for touring the Northumberland coast and Berwick upon Tweed to the North Alnwick with its fabulous Castle and renowned Gardens is only 15minutes away by car and the Farne Island are easily accessed from Seahouses Harbour where many boats offer daily trips to the Farne Islands and The Holy Island of Lindisfarne only a short car journey to the North.
Bamburgh beach is 2 miles along the coast to the North and Beadnell bay is 2 miles along the coast to the South. St Aidans
links, look straight out to the Farne Islands and are only 8 minutes walk from the house, these are easily accessed from the main road. A short walk across the links brings you out onto the beautiful beach with a view of the Farne Islands, daily trips are available to the Islands from Seahouses Harbour where you can sail around to view the many types of wild birds and seal living around the islands or land and walk amongst them.
The village of Seahouses enjoys a supermarket, chemist, Newsagents, Gift and clothing shops, Petrol station and a good selection of Pubs and Restaurants. Bamburgh and Beadnell have pubs and restaurants of good quality. Seahouses is also blessed with an excellent 18 hole golf course and a bowling green at the community centre. Railston Cottage is within 30 minutes drive to Berwick upon Tweed and 20 minutes drive to Alnwick famous for its Castle, Gardens and market town.
We enjoy miles of beautiful unspoilt beaches that give easy access to the visitor and resident alike. North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders offer Hill, Country and coastal walks stretching for miles. Castles, Country houses and estates to visit and of course the world-renowned Farne Islands, mentioned before, home to thousands of sea birds during the breeding season and permanent home to a large colony of Atlantic grey seals. If you have never been before, be warned you could fall seriously in love with the place
